Q&A Medvind

What is Medvind?

Medvind is a brand-new navigation app for members of the Swedish Cruising Association. The first version of the app is being released in May 2026, and development is ongoing. This means that some bugs may appear initially, and not all planned functionality has yet been implemented.

As a user, you can report bugs and submit suggestions for useful features and improvements to the user experience.

The app includes Swedish nautical charts and Hydrographica’s specialised charts (see below for more details). Danish and Finnish charts can also be purchased directly within the app, and additional countries will be added soon.

The app has been developed by the Trelleborg Group, whose developers have extensive experience from other market-leading navigation apps and systems.

Who can use the app?

At present, only members of the Swedish Cruising Association with a Swedish, German, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish Apple-ID have access to the app. It will probably be released publicly at a later stage, but not during 2026.

Medvind is included at no additional cost for primary members with a registered boat. If you have a family membership, only the primary member can log in to the app, but it can be installed on up to five devices, allowing other family members to use it as well.

If you do not own a boat, or prefer not to register it, you can purchase seasonal access to the app for SEK 150 via this link (requires login).

How can I submit feedback and feature requests?

How much does the app cost?

For primary members with a registered boat, the app is included free of charge.

Without a registered boat, access to the app costs SEK 150 per season and can be purchased via this link (requires login).

Which charts are included?

The app includes both the Swedish Maritime Administration’s official nautical charts and Hydrographica’s specialised charts.

Hydrographica’s charts currently extend only to just north of Gävle.

Harbour charts from Arholma to Höga Kusten (Book 10) will be added next season, as Hydrographica has not yet converted them to the S-57 format.

You can also currently purchase:

  • Finnish charts – SEK 179/year
  • Danish charts – SEK 399/year

These charts are purchased directly within the app as annual subscriptions.

Norwegian and Baltic charts (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) will also be available for purchase shortly.

Please note that charts purchased in-app cannot be used if you no longer have access to the app.

How long does access remain valid?

Access remains valid until the last day of February, regardless of when you start using the app.

From 1 March onwards, continued access requires that your membership fee and boat registration fee for 2027 have been paid. Alternatively, you must renew your membership for 2027 and purchase app access for the 2027 season.

If this is not done, your account will be suspended until access is renewed.

Please note that you will also lose access to any additional charts purchased in-app while your account is suspended.

How do I download the app?

Search for “Medvind by Trelleborg” in the App Store and tap Install.

Please note that you may not find the app if you search only for “Medvind”.

The app is currently available only for iPhone and iPad (iOS). An Android version is under development but is not expected to be released during the summer of 2026.

How do I log in?

When opening the app, enter the email address registered with the Swedish Cruising Association.

A login code will then be sent to your email address. Enter the code to log in.

No password is required.

I am not receiving a login code by email. What should I do?

First, check:

  • Your spam/junk folder
  • That you are using the same email address registered with the Swedish Cruising Association

Please note that there is a limit to how many login codes can be requested within a certain period.

Issues with emails being filtered as spam are expected to decrease over time, as messages are currently being sent from a newly established email server. Please do not mark these emails as spam in your email client.

If it still does not work, try again after a few days.

Private email services such as Gmail often have fewer issues receiving emails from new servers. Problems are more common with corporate email addresses or addresses protected by custom IT filters.

If you still do not receive any email:

  • Contact your local IT support
  • Or, if possible, change your registered email address with the Swedish Cruising Association

Please note that it may take several days for email address changes to synchronise with the app.

How can I check which email address is registered?

You can view and update your registered email address by logging in to My Pages on the Swedish Cruising Association website.

If you change your email address, it may take several days before the systems have synchronised and you can log in using the new address.

I receive an error message when trying to log in

This may be because:

  • You are not a member, or your membership has expired
  • You are covered by another family member’s primary membership
  • No email address is registered with the Swedish Cruising Association
  • An incorrect or outdated email address is registered
  • You have not registered a boat and have not purchased access to the app

What features does Medvind include?

Medvind is still under development and new features are being added continuously.

The main focus is to adapt the app to the new charting standards and implement the new chart engine as soon as possible. The timing depends largely on when S-100 data becomes available from the Swedish Maritime Administration and other national hydrographic offices.

At launch, users can:

  • Create routes
  • Save routes
  • Save points of interest (POIs)
  • Connect AIS via Wi-Fi

Features expected during the summer include:

  • Data export
  • Automatic routing

Can I use the app offline?

Yes. You can use the charts and plan routes even without an internet connection.

How many devices can I use?

You can use the app on up to five devices.

Can I share the app within my family?

Yes. However, each new device counts toward the five-device limit. If a sixth device is added, the device that has not been used for the longest period of time will automatically be removed.

What happens if I change phones?

If you change phones, you will need to log in again using a new login code. The new phone will count as a new device and use one of your five available device slots.

Who should I contact if I need help?

Support is provided by the Swedish Cruising Association via phone or email.

Where can I find the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use?
